ProKIP: Rationale and Development of the AI-Nursing-Care-Readiness-Assessment (AINCRA)
Abstract
AI integration in nursing care often faces challenges due to unaddressed requirements and known pitfalls. Readiness models provide a structured approach to assess project preparedness and enhance capabilities for successful AI adoption. Therefore, we developed the AI-Nursing-Care-Readiness-Assessment (AINCRA), designed for planning, implementing, and evaluating AI projects in nursing. Using a bottom-up approach for the development of maturity models, we utilized a mixed-methods to identify key AI readiness factors through expert workshops (N=21), interviews (N=14), an online survey (N=53), and nominal group consensus (N=5). These factors were validated through literature reviews and a Think Aloud study with experts (N=18) from various disciplines. Our findings resulted in a comprehensive framework encompassing five dimensions: regulatory, processual, technical, social and ethical factors, and community building. Future work will build up on these results creating an assessment tool with different maturity levels to help practitioners evaluate and optimize AI projects throughout their lifecycle, fostering successful AI adoption in nursing care.
